Behind the scenes at the Tees Barrage - ITV News, 22 September 2025 This year marked the 30th anniversary of the Tees Barrage. The 70-metre wide barrage incorporates four eight metre tall, 50-tonne floodgates, responsible for controlling the flow and level of the river. Construction began in November 1991 and fully opened in April 1995.
